Education & Outreach Volunteer
In-person & virtual opportunities available. All candidates interested in in-person delivery must affirm they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Applicants must be comfortable conducting community outreach to schedule presentations independently. Current high priority need for bilingual Spanish-speaking volunteers.
Education & Outreach volunteers are public speakers who provide Association education programs to diverse community audiences. Volunteers are community engagers that raise awareness of Association programs, provide basic disease information, and link consumers to services.
The Alzheimer's Association provides training, a staff partner, and electronic or printed materials to assist you in your efforts. Orientation includes several hours of online learning, self-study, and shadowing. Must be 21 to apply. Background check is required.
priority needS:
- Fully Bilingual Spanish-speaking volunteers: Focus will be conducting outreach to Latino serving organizations to share information about dementia, Alzheimer's Association programs, and scheduling/delivering education to the Latino community.
- Faith Based Community Education& Outreach Volunteers: Focus will be conducting outreach to local faith communities (churches, synagogues, etc.) to share information about dementia, Alzheimer's Association programs, and scheduling/delivering education programs.
Key Activities:
- Responsible for scheduling and delivering the majority of own presentations utilizing personal networks and conducting outreach to potential community partners.
- Deliver a minimum of 12 presentations annually using prepared Association education programs on a variety of care and support topics.
- Promote education programs using your local connections, bulletin boards, social media, and physical displays in your community.
- Connect new people and organizations (such as faith communities, businesses, civic and social service organizations, etc.) with Association services and volunteer opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Self-motivated individual that is comfortable reaching out to individuals, organizations, and personal networks.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Excellent technology skills and comfort delivering programs independently.
- Ability to network and collaborate with staff, volunteers, and community partners.
- Passionate about the Alzheimer's Association mission with personal or professional experience with dementia preferred.
Commitment Expected:
- Commit to a 1-year term with a minimum of 12 presentations annually.
- All program volunteers participate in initial training and ongoing education and must comply with Alzheimer's Association volunteer policies and procedures.
- Terms are renewable upon successful completion of annual goal-setting conversation with your staff partner.
