Whether you are an old athlete with a nagging injury that doesn’t want to go away, or just have some or another chronic pain, you will know that your quality of life takes a dive.
Everything you do is an effort and you cannot enjoy anything to the fullest. The good news is that there are so many different ways of dealing with it. All you need to do is find the remedy that works for you.
Exercise
Pain is a tricky issue to deal with because it is so debilitating. Depending on your pain, though, you could consider regular exercise. Studies have shown that regular aerobic exercises improve chronic pain conditions. When you work out, your body produces endorphins that act as pain killers. In effect, they increase your pain threshold and change your perception of pain.
You might be thinking that you are in too much pain to even think about exercise, but no one is suggesting that you start with marathon training. Even short bursts of regular walking could start to reduce your pain. Then you can work ahead from there and as your fitness levels increase.
CBD remedies
If you have been around the block and have had to deal with chronic pain for ages and still haven’t found what you’re looking for, then you could give CBD products a try. Seniors and CBD oil fit like a hand in a glove. The main reason is because of its low potential for side effects and lack of intoxicating effects.
Studies are emerging that indicate that CBD ointments work particularly well for arthritis as it reduces swelling and inflammation. In short, the CBD interacts with the ECS receptors in the brain. The signals that these receptors receive then produce pain-relieving effects.
Heat therapy
This is by no means a new remedy for pain. Heat and cold therapy is one of the time-honored ways for people to manage their pain. Where a hot Epsom salt bath relaxes the mind and changes the nervous input from the body to the brain, a cold bath reduces inflammation.
Knowing which remedy to use is key, though. When you sprain your ankle, you should put ice on it to reduce the swelling. Heat will only increase the swelling due to a higher blood flow. Heat should rather be used for lingering spasm pains as it soothes the pain.
Meditation
Most people don’t believe in meditation and the health benefits it holds, but there is scientific evidence that suggests that meditation reduces pain. The thing that makes mediation unique is because it is non-scripted, meaning it does not look the same for everybody.
Mindfulness meditation is one such approach that showed that meditation could reduce pain. Not only does it lower the pain, but it also reduces the anxiety that is associated with the pain. Those who practice regular meditation also showed a better mental quality of life.
Herbal remedies
You don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars on prescription medication. There are a number of herbs that are associated with pain relief, but not all herbs work on all types of pain. Cloves are excellent needle pain relievers for tooth pain.
In a gel form, it acts in the same way as benzocaine gel. Eucalyptus oil is a natural anti-inflammatory oil which you should inhale. It can also be applied topically but should be tested first to see if the skin reacts. Rosemary is another oil that could be used to relieve pain and can be used to treat headache, muscle and bone pain.
