Summary:

AME Community educators

AME Community Educators are Alzheimer's Association volunteers who provide Alzheimer's and dementia education programs to community audiences. 

Key Activities:

  • Deliver approximately 6 Alzheimer’s Association consumer education programs annually to local congregations, community or neighborhood organizations and companies.
  • Collaborate with local Alzheimer’s Association staff to identify, secure and deliver 30 or 60-minute presentation opportunities using Association program materials.
  • Connect people with additional Association services and volunteer opportunities by proactively making referrals to Alzheimer's Association programs & free 24/7 Helpline.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success with health education using excellent communication, presentation and adult learning skills.
  • Comfort with computers and familiarity with email and PPT presentations. Access to personal computer and internet preferred.
  • Ability to network in the community and collaborate with Alzheimer’s staff and other AME volunteers.
  • Passionate about the partnership of the AMEC Health Commission and Alzheimer’s Association. Personal or professional experience with dementia preferred.
  • Must be age 21 to apply. Background checks are required.

Commitment Expected:

  • AME Community Educators commit to delivering a target of 6 presentations annually (one program every other month).
  • All Community Educators participate in initial onboarding and ongoing mentoring and must comply with Alzheimer’s Association volunteer policies and procedures.

The Alzheimer's Association will provide training, information and electronic or printed materials to assist in your efforts. Orientation includes several hours of online learning, self-study and shadowing or mentoring by local Alzheimer's Association staff and volunteers. Some materials are available in multiple languages.
