Greater New Jersey_Community Volunteer Leader

Alzheimer's Association Community Volunteer Leaders (CVLs) help the local chapter recruit program volunteers, network, build relationships, plan & promote local events, and evaluate community needs. CVLs act as a liaison to promote the Alzheimer’s Association mission and strengthen the services and support within their community. CVLs traditionally serve a underserved rural or minority communities to raise awareness and expand the reach of Alzheimer's Association programs.

• Serve as a connector between the defined geography, community, social group or business and the Alzheimer’s Association.
• Communicate engagement opportunities for the Alzheimer’s Association and coordinate appearances at health and wellness events, back to school events, and community engagement opportunities with local chapter staff, Alzheimer's Association Community Representatives or Community Educators.
• Help identify community needs by assisting local staff to plan and implement Community Forum events, promote events in community, build audience attendance and serve as host as needed.
• Frequently communicate with chapter about local volunteer needs and recruit prospective program volunteers that are both inclusive and represent the demographics of the community to the chapter.
• Promote Alzheimer's Association education programs, conferences, and special events through utilizing local networks, announcements, bulletin boards, Facebook, websites, and physical displays at your faith community.
• Connect members of the community with additional Association services by making referrals to Alzheimer's Association programs & free 24/7 Helpline.
• Observe newly trained volunteers in their activities in order to provide feedback to the chapter and complete necessary paperwork for reporting.

• Proactive and passionate about the mission of Alzheimer’s Association.
• Credible individual with knowledge of and influence in the community.
• An interest and background in relationship management.
• Individual willing to leverage personal and professional social capital to promote the Alzheimer’s Association mission.
• Demonstrated interest in promoting volunteerism.
• Creative, self-starter who is able to successfully manage multiple tasks and priorities.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Ability to network, and collaborate with staff, volunteers, and community partners.

• Community Volunteer Leaders commit to a 1-year term which is renewable upon successful completion of annual goal-setting conversation with your staff partner.
• CVLs are often dual-trained as Alzheimer's Association Community Representatives or Community Educators.
• Orientation includes: online program volunteer welcome and orientation (1 hour) + self-study or in-person role training with staff partner (~2 hours).
• CVLs will work closely with their staff partner to establish local goals and strategy to expand the reach of our programs.
• Background checks are required as part of the volunteer selection process.
• Comply with Alzheimer’s Association volunteer policies and procedures.
• Participate in initial training and ongoing education about Alzheimer’s, dementia and the Alzheimer's Association.
