Summary:

Community Volunteer Leader

Alzheimer's Association Community Volunteer Leaders help the local chapter recruit program volunteers, network, build relationships, plan & promote local events, and evaluate community needs.

Key Activities:

  • Serve as a connector between the defined geography, underrepresented community, potential community partners, social group or business and the Alzheimer’s Association.
  • Discover opportunities for the Alzheimer’s Association and coordinate appearances for local Association Community Representatives or Community Educators at community events.
  • Help identify community needs by planning, implementing and hosting Community Forum events, promote events in community, build audience attendance.
  • Frequently communicate with chapter about local volunteer needs and recruit prospective program volunteers that are both inclusive and represent the community demographics.
  • Promote support groups, education programs, Alzheimer & Brain Awareness Month, Walk to End Alzheimer’s, or The Longest Day using your local connections, bulletin boards, social media and physical displays in your community.
  • Connect the Alzheimer's Association to new community organizations and connect people with additional Association services and volunteer opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Credible individual with knowledge of and influence in the community and an interest or background in relationship management.
  • Individual willing to leverage personal and professional social capital to promote the Alzheimer’s Association mission and potential engagement opportunities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills and comfort with computers and email.
  • Passionate about the Alzheimer’s Association mission with personal or professional experience with dementia preferred.
  • Must be age 21 to apply. Background checks are required.

Commitment Expected:

  • Community Volunteer Leaders commit to a 1-year term.
  • All program volunteers participate in initial training and ongoing education and must comply with Alzheimer’s Association volunteer policies and procedures.
  • Terms are renewable upon successful completion of annual goal-setting conversation with your staff partner.

The Alzheimer's Association will provide training, information and electronic or printed materials to assist in your efforts. Orientation includes several hours of online learning, self-study and shadowing or mentoring by local Alzheimer's Association staff and volunteers. Some materials are available in multiple languages.
