Miami Valley Physician Outreach Representative


Note:  All necessary volunteers are scheduled

Summary:

Alzheimer's Association Physician Outreach Representatives are community engagers that raise awareness of Alzheimer's Association programs and link medical professionals to these services. These volunteers serve as a liaison between the Alzheimer’s Association and local medical professionals. Tasks include direct phone calls to physician offices, preparing direct mailings, delivering information to  physician office locations. 

KEY ACTIVITIES

  • Present key talking points, brief presentations and short overviews of Association services as coordinated with local Alzheimer's Association staff. This may include presentations within various sizes of medical offices or practices in the community. 
  • Deliver materials (purple bags) to physician offices/other medical related locations
  • Network with other organizations at a community fair. Give Alz staff business cards.
  • Assemble information folders as needed
  • Print and mail Thank You letters
  • Follow up with current physicians to thank them/ ask if they need any additional material
  • Help promote Community Forum/symposium with physicians and other medical staff
  • Connect members of the community with additional Association services by proactively making referrals to Alzheimer's Association programs & free 24/7 Helpline. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proactive and passionate about the mission of Alzheimer’s Association.
  • Demonstrated success with public speaking, excellent presentation and education skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Comfort with computers and familiarity with email and making phone calls.  
  • Ability to network, and collaborate with staff, volunteers, and community partners
  • Understand engaging communities around a cause and are making referrals to the Alzheimer's Association.

COMMITMENT EXPECTED:

  • POR volunteers commit to a 1-year term delivering a minimum of 4 presentations per year to medical professionals. 
  • Time commitment of 5-10 hours per week dependent upon specific needs 
    Terms are renewable upon successful completion of annual goal-setting conversation with your staff partner.
  • Orientation includes: online program volunteer welcome and orientation (1 hour) + self-study or in-person role training with staff partner (~2 hours).
  • Background checks are required as part of the volunteer selection process.
  • Comply with Alzheimer’s Association volunteer policies and procedures.
  • Participate in initial training and ongoing education about Alzheimer’s, dementia and the Alzheimer's Association.
